10 Unseen Before Photos of Russian Prisoners

A Russian photographer, Sergiei Vasiliev, was inspired by the tattoos of Russian prisoners. Therefore he decided to run a project, which depicted the criminals’ bodies as a work of art. Each tattoo represents a personal trauma, or a story before and during the imprisonment. These photographs have been taken between 1989 and 1993 and they present Soviet prisoners and their secret code of language.
